I just wanted to say that I very much enjoyed your website. My
mother was a Jarboe from Kentucky, but probably not a direct link. I do
not know too much about her father's family since he died when she was
around 12 or 13. Her father was Joseph Jarboe, a fairly common Jarboe
name. She was named Sarah after his spinster sister, Sarah Jarboe. I
believe Sarah Josephine Jarboe. My mother grew up in Louisville. You
have done a lovely job and I shall enjoy visiting your site again. On 22 February 2005, a message was posted by Richard W. Freeman,
grandson of Rosa Hoots. I am a distant cousin of Rosa's husband, Alfred
Worth Hoots, and a Hoots family genealogist. If Richard sees this
message, I would appreciate it if he will contact me at rhoots@starpower.net.
Incidentally, my maternal grandmother Elizabeth Nelson, from Juneau
County, Wisconsin, met every one of the criteria to be a "Prairie Queen." Enjoyed your site. I am from John Kestner's family, Michael son of
John, Ira (1862-1923)son of Michael then William R Kestner born
1895-1984, Ruby Pearl Kestner 1915-1991 also my grandmother was Nonie Hayter first cousin to her husband William R Kestner.
In fact I understand Phillip Kestner was the first who settled in Va.and
he was the father of John Kestner Senior I am the grandson of Corneilus Duling, it was nice to see something
that was in his handwriting! I have never seen that before. My
grandparents and my mother are both from St. Paul Kansas, still looking
for the obits for my grandparents. This site was a wonderful find. I am the grandson of Rosa Hoots the daughter of Ogeese Captain. Our
family appreciates the work you have done along with the proud history of
our indian ancestors, the Osage. Is there any site listing a roster of St. Judes cemetery in
Monroe City? Years ago there was a paper roster at the entrance
listing all buried there and locations. I have enjoyed your site. I am an amateur genealogist and am
wondering if you have any connections to the Bowles family in Ohio. I
have to say that I certainly saw some family resemblances in the
pictures of the Bowles girls! Could be coincidence but would like to
exchange info with you. Sincerely Randi Lee Bowles- Meentzen I looked extensively for the mentioned article on Capt. and Mrs.
Ogeese on the microfilm for 1922 Journal at the Kansas State Historical
Society in Topeka on two different visits. I was very interested in
hearing more about the early days of my G-Grandfather John T. Bell in
Osage Mission. Unfortunately, I could not find the article they
mentioned. I thought maybe they were wrong about the year and looked in
some other years. The KSHS in Topeka is the best source for this type of
microfilm that I know of and if I ever visit there again, I'll keep
looking. There is a comment in the obituary for JOHN THOMAS BELL that says an
interview was published in the 1922 Journal. An excerpt of that
interview states "he became acquainted with Capt. and Mrs. Ogeese".
I am a descendant of Augustus "Ogeese" Captain who lived in
Osage Mission (St. Paul) until 1871. Would you possibly have a copy of
that 1922 Journal interview? Particularly the portion that discusses his
acquaintance with Capt. and Mrs. Ogeese.
I would very much appreciate any help you might be able to provide.
Augustus Captain is my 3rd g-grandfather. The only photo I've ever seen from when the Jarboes lived in North Dakota is at this link (or you can go to the photo album for James A. Jarboe).
http://www.prairiequeens.com/images/MD_KY/Jarboe_homestead_square.jpg
I've looked at the photo enlarged but the resolution isn't good enough to see what's in the window, although it looks like something is there. There are also photos on the North Dakota page showing what's left of the homestead in the 1950's and the photos / homestead papers on the North Dakota page are interesting for Del Jarboe and for the school teacher Blanche Marquart. Alice,
Grandma (Frances Jarboe) Buckman told me that when she left North Dakota she had to leave her beloved stick horses behind. She said she left them lined up against the window in the house. At the age of 90 she still thought of them looking out of the window of the house. -- I was wondering if the stick horses are in any of the pictures from North Dakota. I want to gather as much information and visual aid to help Madalyn write a poem about a 8 year old girl leaving the horses behind. Thanks, Bridget (Buckman) Potterfield To find more information on St. Jude Church and Cemetary you can contact the City Hall in Monroe City at (573)735-4585. They should be able to help guide you in the right direction. Good Luck! I have spent most of the day trying to find out information about St. Judes Episcopal Church Cemetery. It is my understanding that the church and cemetary are now owned by Monroe City. If you could tell me who to contact to research graves at St. Judes, it would be appreciated.
My e-mail is sdierking@kumc.edu I was wondering if you have any more pictures related to Spalding Springs. My grandfather, Sterling Price Spalding and my great aunt, Rolla, ran the hotel about the time the picture was taken.
Also, in Hannibal, MO, 2004, there will be a reunion of descendents of the Maryland/Kentucky Catholics who came settled in Maryland and moved on to Kentucky, then Missouri and beyond. Jarboe is a common name in this group. Contact Ron Leake president of the Historical society of Ralls County, MO for information. So happy to find this site.
My line is from Eliza Mann.

My line is fron Eliza Mann.
e-mail kinggue@aol.com I'm the great grandson of James Adelbert Jarboe. It's great to be able to research my family history like this and see photos I've never seen before.
Keep up the good work! Thank you for this truly outstanding family resource. alice.costello@sbcglobal.net Congratulations to any and all who compiled this treasure.
http://www.logo-sonnerie-portable.com Good to other Gander decendents in the USA. I am from the Anton Gander Family (1850's) from Albany, N.Y. Did you know that Charles Gander, of Washington, D.C., published a complete chronology of Gander Families about 15 years ago and is ready to publish a new, updated version? He is in the Washington, D.C. Phone Book. He has the listings of several thousand Ganders throughout the world. Hope to hear from other Ganders! I can be reached at lqgander@juno.com. Alice,
I went to grade and high school with your brother, Don. I now live in Flat Rock, NC. Been to your parents home many times years ago. Look me up at:

is there a quilt pattern available for the "Prairie Queen Pattern"???? Rebecca, so glad to have your message. You didn't leave an e-mail address so will respond here. I haven't traced Hugh Meredith, Sr. back that far yet. The first I have found of him was in deed records in Pulaski County VA in 1806. His wife was Nancy Smallwood but I don't know much more at this point. Would love to hear more from you as I have been trying to track down some descendants of Lucinda Branch Curtis. Contact me at alice@prairiequeens.com. I am a descendant of Nancy's sister Lucinda Meredith who married James Parker Curtis. Just starting to research the Meredith line. Do you know if Hugh Meredith (Lucinda's grandfather) is the same Hugh Meredith that was in business with Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia? THANK YOU very much for sharing! I truly appreciate the efforts and enjoyed visiting very much. Thank you. I'm not a family member and stumbled across this site whilst searching for the author of a poem. This is such a marvellous family resource and you deserve many accolades for the work that has gone into it. Well done! Lovely site. Alice, such a terrific website... enjoyed it very much and received a lot of data to update my files. Especially liked the tombstones in Calvary Cemetery. Is this in Holy Mary Cemetery? You and I are cousins 7 different ways, with the nearest being 8C1R. Back for another Visit! Great Stuff Great Website! You never cease to amaze me with all the time you have put in to gathering all the data. Thanks to you our heritage is in place for future generations to enjoy what the present and past generations had to say! I'm also a descendant of James Gough/Susannah Medley (the branch of the family that went from MD to KY to TX and everywhere else). This is a wonderful website - congratulations! Alice,
Once again, you have created a truly PHENOMENAL family website, after what I
am certain has been a long and pains-taking process! Congratulations, it's
wonderful! I look forward to exploring further and checking out the "resource"
links. I'm trying to track down how the Lanham family connects to the Bells ...
that is, I know how they connect, but I don't know Mr. Lanham's first name, only
that he married Nellie Greenwell, granddaughter of Joseph Emory Bell. Any
thoughts??
Hope you're doing well and would love to see if you if business brings you to
New England anytime soon! Enjoy your summer (when you're not working on this
website!).
And I can't WAIT to see snippets from Prairie Queens!
Love, Niki Looks like a beautiful start! Congratulations to any and all who compiled
this treasure...it's so nicely laid out and attractive. I'll be looking forward
to visiting this site. I hope the family will enjoy this new website. It was launched July 6, 2002.
I have a very large amount of old photographs, wills, deeds, homestead papers
and other research I want to share here.
It will also give the family a glimpse of the book Prairie Queens I have been
working on, VERY SLOOOOOWLY, since the end of 1999.
